General information about the glass
The glass tells the time in a specific region on earth. This region is written on the edge of the glass. For example 'Zomertijd Nederland'. This means that the shadow on the glass indicates the summer time throughout the Netherlands.
Tip: first read this whole manual.
Manual of the sundial Beer glass
step 1: put the glass in the sun
step 2: turn the shaduw of the yellow sun to the line of the date of today
step 3: read the time at the shadow on the blue area on the glass
Comment step 1
Put the empty glass upright. On a table works well. Holding it straight up in your hand is also fine.
Comment step 2
There are lines on the blue surface of the glass. Each date of the year has a line.
The lines of the 21st of each month are indicated. Other dates can be estimated between these lines.
The yellow sun on the glass casts a shadow on the blue part. Rotate the glass until the shadow of the yellow sun is on today's line.
Once you have done that, the glass stands correctly.
The example below applies to July 21.
Comment step 3
The blue surface of the glass also has lines for each hour.
Now read the time relative to these lines that indicate the hours.
For example, the shadow in the image below indicates 16:55 on July 21.
and, for example, the shadow in the image below indicates 19:00 on June 21.
Use in practice
Here is a video of the use of the glass on July 21. The glass shows that it is 16:55.
For your information
The glasses can be made for other locations on earth. Also, glasses can be made that indicate a different time. Please contact Hendrik Hollander to discuss the possibilities.
